HISTORY
The initial team was organized by Dan Daniels in the fall of 2001 and was called Coppell Xpress. Dan contacted Coach Jim Wall to see if there was an interest in coaching a boys youth team. Coach Wall had primarily coached JV, High School and College level players in his 35 years of coaching. Dan felt that boys at the 4th and 5th grade level would learn more from a non-parent coach than from a father of one of the players. Of course, the 35 years of professional coaching also would drive the fundamentals as well as teamwork among the players. The other driving point with Coach Wall is that his two sons; Ryan ’03 and Hunter ’99, both played in the Coppell basketball organization all through their high school careers, Jim was fully aware of the Coppell basketball philosophy and techniques that would assist in developing players at a much younger age for the high school level.
In the fall of 2002, Paul Osiecki wanted to implement the same model with his 4th grade son and asked Coach Wall and Dan Daniels if we could work out a second team using the same ground work put together the first year. Similar practice schedules were agreed on and thus the start of a new team. Since everyone wanted this club to be Coppell based but open to players outside of Coppell, the team name was changed to Texas Xpress.
Since then, the club contines to add a new team each year and expanded it to the 3rd grade level in 2008. Each team now has it's own coach and the manager takes cares of hiring coaches, recruiting players, budgeting all expenses, reserving courts and entering tournaments. In 2009, the club decided to become a non-profit organization and is registered as a 501c3 using the aflillation with AAU (Amateur Athletic Union). This status helps with raising club funds to purchase equipment for the players to use (Shoot-Away, hurdles, block out pads, etc). In our first year as non-profit, the club along with the Coppell High School Basketball Team organized a 3 on 3 tournament in March of 2009. It was a huge success with over 60 teams and is now becoming an annual event.
With the club becoming a non-profit organization, we have established a set of Bylaws and a Board consisting of each team's manager. The positions on the board are rotating in the following order with the 2011-12 board members:
Chairman & Treasurer 7th Grade Manager Jeff Schultz Vice Chairman 6th Grade Manager Chris Strong Secretary & Tournament 5th Grade Manager Gary Mann Director of Spirit Wear 4th Grade Manager Tim Herron and Risk Management
These board members can be contacted using their information on their team's web page. Click Here for a copy of the By-Laws.
